Syracuse, N.Y. — Two men were arrested early last Friday morning for illegally possessing a handgun outside a strip club on the city’s North Side, police said.
Officers responded at about 2:21 a.m. to the Bada Bing strip club at 234 Wolf St. in Syracuse, for a disturbance involving a person with a gun, according to a news release from Syracuse police.
Multiple people were standing outside on Wolf Street when officers arrived, police said. Officers saw a man armed with a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson handgun, pass the gun to another man, police said.
Both men were detained, they said.
After an investigation, police learned the gun was illegally possessed by both men.
Aaron Amey, 33, and Michael Wentling, 40, were both arrested and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police said.
Wentling was previously convicted of third-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon in 2005, according to state prison records.
Both men were taken to and held at the Onondaga County Justice Center, police said.
Police have responded to several shootings near North Side strip clubs over the last seven months.
A 28-year-old man was accused of firing into a crowd of about 25 people outside the Alpine strip club near the intersection of Butternut and Townsend streets on June 13. One person was reported injured after getting hit by a bullet in the butt.
A 36-year-old man was shot in the leg on Nov. 10 in an apparent drive-by shooting while inside the Alpine Lounge at 401 Butternut St.
