Crime takes place in all neighborhoods, even the quiet ones – FOX13 Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Crime is a big issue that affects neighborhoods across the city of Memphis.
Just this week, cars belonging to a couple were stolen from the Evergreen Historic District, a place the residents say is extremely safe.
“There are some new people around, a pretty friendly spot,” said Owen Bell, who believes the neighborhood hasn’t changed that much.
But he doesn’t believe it’s completely safe from crime.
“I would say there’s always been some crime or some talk of crime,” said Bell.
Earlier this week, a resident of five years in the neighborhood said her car was stolen. She reported the incident to the Nextdoor app. Her boyfriend also said his car was stolen.
She told FOX13 robberies like this bring implications over time. But some residents can’t say the same.

“I’ve in general felt very safe here, and I love this neighborhood. It has a lot to offer,” said Lesley Adkins, who has lived in the neighborhood for almost 20 years.
Adkins said she had to take a break from the Nextdoor app because of some of the stories she had read.
“I know that there’s a lot on Nextdoor, and I actually had to get off of it because it was a little overwhelming,” said Adkins.
Adkins said she can do all the things she needs, including making sure her kids are safe.
“I feel safe walking. I feel safe with my kids out front, and I even feel safe walking at night,” said Adkins.
