Two popular cryptocurrencies soared to all-time highs this week, making the industry market worth over $3 trillion. Ether, the world’s second-largest coin, jumped 4% Monday to reach a record high of $4,782, though it has since slightly decreased. Bitcoin jumped 6% to $66,095, though it also has since gone down. The surge comes as incoming New York City mayor Eric Adams asked to receive his first paychecks from the city in Bitcoin and said he would create a city-wide crypto coin similar to Miami’s — moves he hopes will make the Big Apple “the center of the cryptocurrency industry.”
