LENAWEE COUNTY, MI – A woman was killed Monday evening when she was hit by an SUV while walking across a highway near Adrian, police say.
Rescue crews were called at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, to U.S. 223 near Treat Street in Madison Township for a reported crash involving an SUV and a pedestrian, according to the Michigan State Police.
The preliminary investigation indicates an Adrian man, 67, driving a red Chevy Equinox was going east on the highway when he struck a woman who appeared to be walking across the roadway, police said.
The woman, 52, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver was not injured in the crash and no other vehicles appear to be involved in the crash, police said.
At this time in the investigation, it is unclear if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, police said.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Michigan State Police at 734-242-3500.
The Madison Township Police department, Madison Township Fire Department and Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
